With exams in full swing, I have neither the motivation nor brain power to concoct up a story or poem; so, I’m posting on old poem I wrote for a competition. The theme was parallelism, and instead of grammatical, I wrote a stanza that could be flipped, and read again, but with an entirely new meaning. I encourage you to write a poem that can be reversed, like below.
You know
That girl who is faultless and gorgeous?
I’ll never be her, because I’m
just normal and ordinary.
I couldn’t ever be
flirting with boys or laughing with all my friends,
Wearing the clothes of a stranger,
Painting a picture of someone else on myself,
With jet black lines around my eyes,
The blood of the giving trees wiped over my lips
Up at the crack of dawn,
I’m always
alone.
I’m never
with anyone.
I’m comfortable
in the silence,
What a waste to be
dreaming?
I say that is everything,
‘Being rich and famous and flawless’
I couldn’t ever conceive of it because
My mom said
‘To err is human’
you can always improve
and I don’t believe
I’m unequal to anyone
